You’ve spent a lot of time finding the ideal home for you and your family, but what about the neighborhood.  Sure it may look appealing and have schools nearby and be conveniently located close to shopping destinations, but what many people are unaware of is the quality of the neighborhood.  Dean Graziosi states that you should pay just as much attention to the neighborhood as anything else when choosing a new home.  Before you sign any contracts or make an offer on a home, Dean Graziosi recommends that you conduct some research into the neighborhood before you submit an offer.

One of the first things that Mr. Graziosi recommends when investigating a potential new neighborhood is to talk with the neighbors.  If the opportunity should arise while you are at an open house or a private showing you should ask them what their opinion of the area is.  Are they aware of any problem neighbors, break-ins or graffiti that has occurred recently in the neighborhood.  You can also ask them if they are aware of any other neighbors who may be listing their homes soon, a more desirable home may be hitting the market sooner than you may think.  Neighbors can be a great source of information you shouldn’t hesitate to ask them a few questions.

Another thing that potential home buyers should do when investigating a neighborhood is to visit during both day and night.  It is highly recommended by Mr. Graziosi that buyers visit an area during both times of the day to see what goes on in the neighborhood after dark.  This will give buyers the opportunity to see if the same quiet neighborhood they saw earlier in the day is the same once the sun goes down.

The next thing that can be done to gain some insight into the neighborhood is to Google the full address of the home.  This simple search can provide buyers with information that they may not have been made aware of during an open house or private showing.  For example, you may discover that there is a daycare located right behind you or that there is a business that may cut down on the available parking during the day.  You can also use the Street View to view photos of the home that may be older than the ones you were presented with.  This is a great way to see if any major changes have been made to the property in recent years.  Mr. Graziosi recommends that potential buyers conduct as much research as possible into the neighborhood they may be moving into.  The best time to perform this research is before you submit an offer or commit yourself to one home or another.  Becoming familiar with your surroundings before you move in can cause a lot of headaches later on.
